Dwarfs Unit Summary

Warriors: The Warriors took to the center-right area of the battlefield. They were the quickest unit to make it down the battlefield. That made them the best candidates to counter the Darkshards in Close Combat. However, their objective was obvious to the Dark Elves and the Darkshards tried to shoot them all down before the charge. The Darkshards had two Shooting phases against them, and caused enough wounds both times to spark a panic test–passing both times. They also had a Stand and Shoot reaction against the Warriors’ charge. By the time the Warriors could deliver blows, there were only 8 dwarfs remaining. But, the Warriors bravely fought until the last Dwarf, which was in Dwarfs Turn 10.

Quarrelers:  The Quarrelers deployed on the left flank of the army formation, next to the Mysterious Forest. They entered the Mysterious Forest and rolled a 15: An Enchanted Forest. This forest grants the 1st Unit that enters the Unbreakable Rule for the remainder of the game. The spent the rest of the game occupied with shooting a few different Dark Elves units. They started with the Dark Riders, who charged the Quarrelers. But, after losing combat against the Quarrelers, the Dark Riders decided to Flee, but were Pursued and Caught by the Quarrelers, and eliminated from the battle. Next, they targeted the Darkshards for a few rounds until they became occupied with the Dreadspears. They fought with the Dreadpsears in Close Combat until the Quarrelers were eventually wiped out.

Longbeards: The Longbeards deployed on the far right end of the army formation. They moved in towards the Darkshards in conjunction with the Warriors. But, they failed a Charge, and were not able to come into Close Combat with the Darkshards, on their flank, until Turn 10. They did some damage to the Darkshards in the next few rounds. By the end of the game, there were still 7 Longbeards still standing.

Hammerers: The Hammerers were deployed in the center of the army formation, with the Thane leading the unit. They Charged into the Flank of the Dreadspears soon after the Dreadspears charged into the Quarrelers. After the Quarrelers were killed, the Hammerers punished the Dreadspears in Close Combat until they broke and fled from Combat. They Hammerers Pursued and destroyed what was left of them. Then they reformed and later charged into the Bleakswords, who were led by the Elf Master. The Thane and Master squared off, but not in an official Challenge. The Thane was felled after a few rounds of combat, and the Hammerers continued fighting until the Bleakswords until the end of the game. 2 Hammerers, 12 Bleakswords and the Elf Master were still standing at the end.

Slayers: The Slayers were deployed on the right flank of the army formation. They took until turn 12 to get into Close Combat with the Darkshards. They did not take a wound in Combat, but caused a wound on the Darkshards. They did not have have any significant impacts on the game due to their late arrival.

Bolt Thrower: The Bolt Thrower was deployed in the center-right section of the army. On turn 2, they fired a shot towards the Dark Riders, but the warmachine misfired. Rolling on the Misfire Chart, the Bolt Thrower ended up getting Destroyed!

Thane: The Dwarf Thane was deployed with the Hammerers unit. He helped the unit eliminate the Dreadspears. But during the battle with the Bleakswords, he was injured by the Elf Master in their first round of Combat against each other. Then the Elf Master finished him off two rounds later. The Thane was unable to wound the Master.

Dark Elves Unit Summary

Dreadspears: The Dreadspears deployed in the center of the army formation. They moved quickly down the battlefield and were the second Dark Elf unit in combat after the Dark Riders. They climbed a Mysterious Hill, that ended up being a Sunny Hill, #18, which allows the entire unit to shoot. That bonus did not affect them. They took a volley from the Quarrelers. Then they charged into the Quarrelers, and then were counter-charged on the flank by the Hammerers. They eliminated the Quarrelers, but were soon eliminated by the Hammerers.

Bleakswords: The Bleakswords started the game in the center-left of the army formation. After the Dreadspears were eliminated from the battlefield, they were next to engage the Hammerers. The Elf Master was leading the unit. They fought 5 player rounds of Close Combat with the Hammerers and cut their unit down to 2 dwarfs. They still had 12 Bleakswords on the battlefield at the end of the game.

Darkshards: The Darkshards became a nuisance early by attacking the Quarrelers with their repeater crossbows. Their shower of shards cut their Quarrelers to a manageable size for the Dreadspears before their charge. Then they had a few volleys at the Warriors before they charged in at them. They were hard for the Warriors to bring down, and ultimately, the Longbeards and Slayers were both needed to charge in on exposed flanks to thin down the Darkshards. 4 Darkshards were still standing at the end of the game.

Dark Riders: The Dark Riders were the Vanguard unit of the Dark Elves, and moved down the battlefield quickly. They promptly Charged the Quarrelers. But, their unit was reduced to half its starting size before Close Combat could begin due to the effective shooting of the Dwarf crossbows. They were routed in their only round of Combat with the Quarrelers, and were cut down after they Fled from the battle.

Harpies: The Harpies were wary of getting picked off in mid-air by the Dwarfs shooting, and decided to stay behind cover until the shooting was over. They took a while to arrive in the battle area. On turn 12, they failed their only Charge attempt on the Flank of the Longbeards. They did not contribute anything to the battle. but remained alive in the end.

Elf Master: The Master was deployed alone to the top of a hill in their army formation. But, he joined the Bleakswords unit before the real action began. He was directly responsible for slaying the Dwarf Thane after a few rounds of Close Combat. He continued on to fight against the Hammerers. He was still standing unwounded at the end of the game.
